Privacy Policy
Your church's photos belong to your church. They stay private unless your team shares them, and we never sell them or use them for ads. Here's exactly what we collect and where it goes.
What we collect
- Your account. Your name, email address and password. If you sign in with Google, we get your name and email from Google instead of a password. Passwords are stored hashed by our sign-in provider; we never see them.
- Your church. Its name, who's on the team, and each person's role.
- Your photos. The files you upload, the smaller previews we make from them, and details read from each file: when it was taken, the camera and lens, and the exposure settings. We don't read or keep location (GPS) data from your photos.
- Your team's work. Folders, picks, tags, edits, looks, Views and upload links.
- Volunteer uploads. The name on a volunteer's upload link is saved with the photos they send.
- View visits. When someone opens a View or downloads from it, we count it so your team can see it's being used. We don't record who they are.
- Error reports. When something breaks, we save the error, the page, your browser type and your account ID so we can fix it.
- The waitlist. If you joined it: your email, your church's name if you gave it, and how you found us.
Where your photos are kept
Photos are stored in private storage (Supabase Storage, in the United States). Only signed-in members of your church's team can see them. Every photo the app shows comes through a link that expires, so nothing is public by its address.
A volunteer upload link lets someone add photos to your library. It doesn't let them see it.
The AI features
To tag your photos, write captions and suggest the keepers, we send a small preview of each photo (never the original file) to Google's Gemini API. When kids are in a photo, we also send a larger preview so it can find check-in name tags. Google returns the results to us. We don't use your photos to train AI models.
Kids' privacy
When Church Photos finds a kids' check-in name tag, it blurs it for you. Your team can also put a blur over any child who can't be shown. A public View only ever shows the blurred copy of those photos.
Face groups (optional)
Face groups are off unless your church turns them on. When they're on, faces are found in your team's own browser (photos aren't sent anywhere for this) and grouped so your team can find every photo of someone. Only signed-in members of your team can see face groups, and they never appear on a public View. Turning face groups off deletes all the face data.
Views and links you share
A View is a public page. Anyone with its link can see the photos in it, and download them if your team allows it. Turn a View off at any time and its link stops working. Team invite links and volunteer upload links also work for anyone who has them, so share them only with the people they're for. You can turn them off or reset them in the app.
Who else handles your data
We use a few companies to run Church Photos. Each gets only what it needs to do its job:
- Supabase: accounts and sign-in (including password reset emails), our database and photo storage.
- Vercel: hosting, plus Vercel Web Analytics, which counts visits to our pages without cookies and without following you to other sites.
- Google: the Gemini API for the AI features above, and Google sign-in if you use it.
- Resend: emails to the waitlist.
We never sell your data, use it for advertising or share it with anyone else, unless the law makes us.
Cookies
We use cookies only to keep you signed in. Your browser also remembers a few display choices, like a hidden “Getting started” card. No ad or tracking cookies.
Keeping and deleting
We keep your photos until your church deletes them, and you can delete any photo at any time. To delete your account or your church's whole library, email support@churchphotos.app. We'll delete it, and any copies in our backups are gone within 30 days.
Children
Church Photos is for church staff and volunteers. Accounts aren't for children under 13. Churches decide which photos of kids to take and share, under their own policies and the permission families give them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll email the account owners before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the last update. See also our Terms.
